Guarding Path Polygons with Orthogonal Visibility

چکیده
We are interested in the problem of guarding simple orthogonal polygons with the minimum number of r-guards. The interior point p belongs an orthogonal polygon P is visible from r-guard g, if the minimum area rectangle contained p and q lies within P . A set of point guards in polygon P is named guard set (as denoted G) if the union of visibility areas of these point guards be equal to polygon P i.e. every point in P be visible from at least one point guards in G. For an orthogonal polygon, if dual graph of vertical decomposition is a path, it is named path polygon. In this paper, we show that the problem of finding the minimum number of r-guards (minimum guard set) becomes linear-time solvable in orthogonal path polygons. The path polygon may have dent edges in every four orientations. For this class of orthogonal polygon, the problem has been considered by Worman and Keil who described an algorithm running in O(npoly logn)-time where n is the size of the input polygon. The problem of finding minimum number of guards for simple polygon with general visibility is NP-hard, even if polygon be orthogonal. Our algorithm is purely geometric and presents a new strategy for r-guarding orthogonal polygons and guards can be placed everywhere in the interior and boundary of polygon.

On Guarding Orthogonal Polygons with Bounded Treewidth
There exist many variants of guarding an orthogonal polygon in an orthogonal fashion: sometimes a guard can see an entire rectangle, or along a staircase, or along a orthogonal path with at most k bends. In this paper, we study all these guarding models in the special case of orthogonal polygons that have bounded treewidth in some sense. Exploiting algorithms for graphs of bounded treewidth, we...
متن کاملTight Bounds for Conflict-Free Chromatic Guarding of Orthogonal Art Galleries
The chromatic art gallery problem asks for the minimum number of “colors” t so that a collection of point guards, each assigned one of the t colors, can see the entire polygon subject to some conditions on the colors visible to each point. In this paper, we explore this problem for orthogonal polygons using orthogonal visibility—two points p and q are mutually visible if the smallest axisaligne...
متن کاملMinimum Hidden Guarding of Histogram Polygons
A hidden guard set G is a set of point guards in polygon P that all points of the polygon are visible from some guards in G under the constraint that no two guards may see each other. In this paper, we consider the problem for finding minimum hidden guard sets in histogram polygons under orthogonal visibility. Two points p and q are orthogonally visible if the orthogonal bounding rectangle for ...
متن کاملAlmost Tight Bounds for Conflict-Free Chromatic Guarding of Orthogonal Galleries
We address recently proposed chromatic versions of the classic Art Gallery Problem. Assume a simple polygon P is guarded by a finite set of point guards and each guard is assigned one of t colors. Such a chromatic guarding is said to be conflict-free if each point p ∈ P sees at least one guard with a unique color among all guards visible from p. The goal is to establish bounds on the function χ...
متن کاملSingle-Point Visibility Constraint Minimum Link Paths in Simple Polygons
We address the following problem: Given a simple polygon $P$ with $n$ vertices and two points $s$ and $t$ inside it, find a minimum link path between them such that a given target point $q$ is visible from at least one point on the path. The method is based on partitioning a portion of $P$ into a number of faces of equal link distance from a source point. This partitioning is essentially a shor...
